today was fun! yay!
woke up very early. like 7.30am, and went online for some time before leaving for vivan's house. i thought we were going to eat brunch together! we met and cut the boards for our characters' names, and abit the we didnt estimate time properly. didnt have time to finish! in the end we gathered up eevrything around 10 plus and went mrt to take train and meet the rest. we were all kinda late and ended up at ite college west at the same time as xulaoshi.
didnt really think it would be all that great at first, things seemed rather dry when we entered the auditorium...had very little time to rehearse and we changed the order to what the hell followed by maybe then depends. around 1.30pm the audience all came back from their lunch and xulaoshi/guolaoshi talked to them about stuff. abit they were so relaxed strolling around on the stage. the audience was DAMN RESPONSIVE they seriously rocked la please. love them! haha.
so all of us did our pieces and it all went rather smoothly except for that point when vivian's mike ran out of sound. previously we agreed to let maybe get forumed but last minute decision guolaoshi wanted the audience to vote instead because there werent that many people. in the end our piece (depends) had to go up and it was really really cool!
imagine taking part in real live forum theatre. that was cool hurr. many volunteers coming up and you could really tell that they felt strongly about the topic. forum theatre is like a piece of interactive drama. first the actors act out a scene which depicts a problem (mainly in the society) such as what we were dealing with today, common spaces/racial harmony, or abuse or whatever. so the audience sees a lot of problems in the play. then later on the audience can choose to stop a scene and come up as a volunteer to either replace a character or add a character, to show what one should do to solve the problem in that situation.
we didnt reallly have a lot of time to forum it properly but at least we managed to do it quite a few times. after the show xulaoshi said something that's quite meaningful, she was talking to alex and alex was saying that he didnt do alot as their thing didnt get forumed, and she was like, small things can make great changes. things like these (drama) can really affect people. and seriously this form of art, drama, no matter what language really touches people's hearts and can really reach out to people. it feels good to make a difference. or at least THINK that you are making a difference. i guess this is what spurs people like guolaoshi and xulaoshi who invest countless hours into drama and contributing to the society on- to think that they are making a difference in this world.
what about us? what am i doing to make things better? its really not that difficult.
anyway the feeling was so shiok. standing there on the stage looking out at the audience as you watch their reactions, see them getting riled up and excited over what you are showing them. they were really really responsive, kamsahamida (: forum theatre was so fun! Depends was really very very lucky to get forumed today :D
after everything ended we were a frenzy in the backstage, what with getting off our wireless mikes (yeah, very 'wireless') and writing hastily scrawled messages on our presents for A WHAT. we kept on reminding them to stay/wait for us! chionged downstairs afterwards and met them and presented our presents for them :D took many photos! and while we were downstairs we all felt so duapai please because everyone knew us from the forum theatre thing alr. plus we were attracting alot of attention, one big group of people in jeans and white shirts taking photos talking yelling etc. then these three guys from a school came and wanted to take photo with us! -honoured- hurr. it feels cool. and the ITE student council president came and talked to us and he had nothing but praise for us. haha. a bit overwhelming. and we saw rachel from bedok view sec on the way back too.
today the people who volunteered were um this girl from PL (sorry forgot her name), rachel (bedok view sec), two students from ite college west (suhaimi? something like that, and yong)
after that we all took train and went bugis! didnt change cos we thought it looked cool to have all of us wearing the same shirts. haha. laila, nethra, cat, angie all left before that... jacq had to meet her mum the rest of us wanted to eat and weimin vivan me alex honghwee wanted to watch happy feet (: ate at delifrance. the order took damn long please! while waiting i spotted these ijtp sec people and they looked really familiar. must be from the conference because the number of people was like the same and they kept on looking looking at us, when they went up the escalator i was still looking and ended up smiling at this girl. haha yay nice people.
after eating a very rushed meal we left for the movie and kally went home and jacq went to meet her mum. bought tickets before that, something nice happened! this woman came and gave us free voucher for one movie ticket and two popcorn and drink sets. so nice! i think she had leftover or she just didnt want them. ahah damn cool! but when we went into the theatre it was horrible. like seriously very very very horrible. if you want to watch a movie, NEVER EVER GO TO BUGIS JUNCTION SHAW CINEMA.
first of all was the lightings. when we went in through the passageway it was pitch-black. couldnt make anything out and it was pratically IMPOSSIBLE to find the correct row. we ended up asking alot of people at different rows for the row letter and squinting hopelessly at the tiny little lights. then when we finally found our row we realised that there were people already in our assigned seats. thought that maybe they sat wrongly or something so we asked the man in one of the seats and he took out his ticket, it was the exact same thing so apparently the person at the counter made a big mistake. in the end we just grabbed some seats but the entire row was messed up and the other people who came later didnt get to sit at assigned seats too.
then honghwee me vivan left to go toilet first. it was seriously gross. cubicles piled high with used pads and toilet paper and the whole place was damn dirty. then when we returned and were in the process of changing our seats to make way for people we spilled the salted popcorn -.- why? because the theatre was so damn dark. grrrr. and then the seats were all so close and the backs of the chair so high, and there was no stadium seating so can't see the screen very well. haha.
but apart from all the theatre's faults HAPPY FEET was a really nice show! its about this penguin who dances real well but can't sing, and meanwhile all the penguins in his clan are expected to be able to sing real well (their heartsong) so that they will be able to find a mating partner later on in real life. talks about mambo (the lead)'s struggle for acceptance. another big part of the show is about the steadily decreasing amount of fish in the sea for the penguins, because of humans who catch large amounts of fish for business. great music, cute characters and some pretty hilarious lines, plus some serious issues addressed underneath it all. whats there not to like? :D
came home, bathed, watched part of i not stupid because everyone else was rushing home to watch -.- haha. ate so little today! and i didnt choose to! was forced by unexpected circumstances ): vivan and i counted. we drank one glass pepsi twist, ate one dove amicelli chocolate, one ornage mentos mint, 1/3 delifrance chicken lasagne and 1 and 1/3 of the ice cream ball thing, a bit of jacq's chocolate sauce, some popcorn and about half a cup of root beer/pepsi, and that's it for today. it can all make up one meal please. oh and a stick of kinder bueno later :D
make a difference!
this marks the end of harmonyworks...
i love you all drama camp'06! <3
