Why does everyone feel like there is nothing in Singapore to do / nowhere in Singapore to go. I think sometimes we might be looking in the wrong places. I want to explore the ann siang/dempsey/portsdown (which is some really awesome looking place according to jesmine) and the whole civics district that is not so close to the mrt station. She says she wants to just grab a map and start walking. I really wouldn't mind :D
There is really a collective memory that lies in Singapore. I was doing something related to this for lit; places play a part in etching your consciousness of yourself as a person, and of memories (which are integral to your whole anyway, isn't it?). And that especially holds true in land-scarce Singapore. I love the feeling of deja vu you get when you go somewhere familiar-but-new.
I hate construction though I know its for practical reasons. There are train stations going up everywhere and there are like 5 HDB estates/condos that they are building simultaneously near my house. Man. If this goes on after 50 years we would have no idea what 'open space' means anymore, except for manicured rooftop gardens.
